Our people
Mark McNeil
Principal
Mark qualified as a solicitor in 2004, joined McNeil and Co in September 2016 and became a Director of the Firm in February 2020. In October 2020 he purchased the business and is now the Principal. He is a Higher Court Advocate and as such he can represent clients from the police station through to the Supreme Court. He has a wealth of experience in regard to all criminal offences and an enviable reputation as a passionate and persuasive advocate. His record for helping drivers retain their licences is second to none.
Prior to joining McNeil and Co, Mark previously worked with a variety of firms within the local area.
Mark was a key member of the save Lincoln Prison campaign and was invited to Westminster to address government ministers against its closure.
When not at work Mark spends his time with his three young children. Before studying law he graduated with a Biomedical Science Degree.

Sophie Kitching
Partner
Following the completion of her law degree, Sophie continued her academic studies, obtaining a Master’s degree in Criminal Law with Commendation. She is a fully qualified Duty Solicitor, accredited to represent clients at both the Police Station and Magistrates’ Court.
Sophie has extensive experience in criminal defence and provides a 24-hour service to clients detained at police stations. She regularly advises and represents individuals facing proceedings before the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court, dealing with a wide range of criminal, motoring and regulatory offences.
She has particular expertise in road traffic law and has developed a wealth of experience representing clients in all aspects of motoring offences, from the initial police investigation through to proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court.
In recognition of her experience, dedication and contribution to the firm, Sophie was appointed Partner in September 2025. Her progression reflects her commitment to providing the highest standards of legal representation and client care.
Sophie is known for her meticulous preparation, attention to detail and determined approach to defending her clients. She is passionate about achieving the best possible outcome in every case and prides herself on providing clear, practical advice and a supportive, professional service throughout the legal process.
Outside of work, Sophie enjoys spending quality time with her family, socialising with friends and travelling.

Kelly Cowell
Criminal Administrator
Kelly joined the firm in 2026 having previously worked in the probation service. Kelly is based in the Criminal Department, working closely with our solicitors to assist them in their duties. The role includes communicating with clients, both in person and on the phone and assisting solicitors in the preparation of legal documents.

Patrick Gardiner
Police Station Representative
Patrick started at Andrew Jay & Co in 2015 initially he started out on an apprenticeship. Patrick soon displayed enthusiasm and a willingness to learn all aspects of the firm through administration to representing clients. The result of which he is now an accredited Police Station Representative. If you ever have any queries or problems. Patrick will soon resolve these.
